Graduate Nurse Internship Program
The GN Internship Program was started to provide educational content and clinical experiences that will be meaningful and applicable to the graduate nurse, and will assist in preparing the intern for the journey from novice to expert. Weekly goals are set and followed to reach goals or identify educational needs or issues that may be barriers to reaching goals. The graduate nurse is provided clinical experiences that focus on clinical skills, safe quality patient care, organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and competency validation. Clinical rotations are scheduled through different specialties to provide the intern with knowledge and experience in diverse settings. These include, but are not limited to, Enterostomal Therapy, Diabetes Care Institute, PT/OT/ST, Wound Care/Hyperbarics, Telemetry, and Phlebotomy.
Classroom enrichment is provided weekly which highlights the professional role of the nurse, professional development, effective communication, patient education, survival skills, spiritual and culturally sensitive care, performance improvement, leadership skills, library skills, evidence-based practice, and the business of healthcare.
Enrollment into the GN Internship program is limited. Qualified candidates must provide a completed application and necessary paperwork, two letters of reference that recommend you for the area to which you wish to work, and verification of graduation from an accredited nursing program. Application to sit for the NCLEX must be completed prior to the first day of hospital orientation and you must take the exam prior to the end of the 12-week orientation.
