High Standards of Care
The Pepin Heart Hospital & Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute sets high standards for its medical staff. All cardiologists must be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which issues board certification in cardiovascular diseases. Board certification requires a three-year residency in Internal Medicine followed by two years of clinical training. Many of our cardiologists complete additional residency training and fellowships in their area of specialization. All cardiac surgeons must be Board Certified, either by the American Board of Surgery or the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Board certification requirements include completion of a five-year residency program in general surgery that is followed by another two years of clinical training in either vascular or thoracic cardiovascular surgery. Our multi-disciplinary patient care team includes Registered Nurses who are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and hold certifications in specialized areas of expertise such as critical care nursing (CCRN) and cardiac/vascular nursing (CVN). Our Electrophysiology (EP) Laboratory physicians are specially trained to evaluate and treat electrical disorders of the heart, such as arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats. Our cardiac cath lab is staffed with ACLS certified specially trained cardiovascular invasive specialists.
